Upcoming changes and a new URL

Posted by on Apr 1st, 2011, at 8:55 am in Site Stuff.

Dear readers. Recently we have been committing change, trying to better the website with more staff and improving the way the site functions.

Domain change

To the point: Due to some ludicrous DMCA take down notices some popular search engines have decided to block some portions of the website’s content from being indexed (who don’t seem to be budging). This sucks. Basically, we believe the best way to counter this is to move the site to

scnsrc.me and/or scenesource.me

Please update your bookmarks! The other Scene Source domains will redirect to scnsrc.me regardless.

Upcoming content/changes

We have been contemplating quite a few new additions to the site and community. These include (not in order):

  • A forum (Likely small)
  • Getting the predb back up
  • Top 10 most popular posts per [insert timeframe here]
  • All categories being filterable
  • Our own image host including optimized images throughout
  • Various optimizations, as always

^ None of the above is set in stone exactly; but we’re working towards it all in a semi-intelligent fashion :).

Make some. As far as we’re concerned the site is better than ever and will continue to gather in awesomeness over time :D.

the idea of having forums sounds awesome!

noticed the recaptcha was broken for a tiny bit there, guess it fixed itself when I refreshed the page.

“a forum?! isn’t #scnsrc big enough? :X” You cant search irc. A forum stays there forever.
All categories being filterable>> this is the best one coming here just to see new movies and games releases and see dozend of sh`tt` mp3. And yes I`ve tried using `disable mp3` whatever.

    Keep up the good work.

@4, sadly the way wordpress changed stuff, filtering multiple things doesn’t work.

for the time being just browse the categories you like until a better solution is found.

“Due to some ludicrous DMCA take down notices some popular search engines have decided to block some portions of the website’s content from being indexed (who don’t seem to be budging).”

I dont think this will change anything, it will still be filtered after a while… waste of time and effort tbh.

This would have been a great time to April 1st everyone saying the site had been taken by the RIAA or the Canadian Mounties. Great opportunity missed!

I love the improvements that you guys employed in the website and the possible features that might get implemented into the system is going to help the site twofolds.

    I cannot come up with any suggestions that could improve the sites awesomeness at all…. But the ideas that you mentioned/plan on bringing in is sound and shouldn’t receive any complaints. I look forward to changes :}

Will the RSS feeds be the same or will that be changing too?

  13. 13. NuZZ Trusted Poster Apr 1st, 2011 at 6:17 pm

Rss should be the same. Also, yes, as you can see by the staff application posts, we’re aware that we can’t recruit engRish speakers. 🙂

    All changes look awesome people.
    Keep up the good work.

Thanks a very good news as I love the website but I have dificulties remembering the url when not home. I am sure scenesource.me will be must easier to remember…

Also it is good that we will be able to filter any categories coz not everyone of us is interested about all of them

You are doing all doing a great job !!

  21. 21. awdas Apr 2nd, 2011 at 7:34 am

if you set a 301 redirect on the old domains, some modern browsers will automatically update their bookmarks.

  22. 22. jix._. Apr 2nd, 2011 at 11:27 am

hmm… sonds good, I hope you’re not fooling us there ^^ (you know because of april 1st *lame* :P)

Anywho @NuZZ: One bug report, one feature suggestion…

First in Opera theme switcher as well as infiscroll in starsauce if broken. When switching theme it always reverts back to default skin when clicking a link, although the cookie seems to be fine. Infiniscroll not working might be related to that problem. (Experienced on two different pcs, so it might not be a misconfigured browser)

Secondly here’s a feature that could both be useful for you and the readers: Defining your favorite hosts! 🙂
Why that? Well because then you could highlight (maybe optionally filter) posts that contain the links of your hoster. I usually catch myself opening a post then doing a search for e.g. “netload” (which is not that common). So it would be a great time saver to extend the current comments/links/split buttons by a “my hosters” button, that will only display the hosters I prefer.
Killer feature, right? Well I may be wrong but I reckon that’s a feature no site offers plus a useful one, too.

Also you might be able to generate a statistic about what kind of hosters are most popular with the scnsrc readers. It probably would also be cool to see what hosters people tend to use when you’re planning on getting a premium account…

So what to you think? Could this be worth implementing? 🙂

    greetings from teh jix._.

Gosh there are so many typos in the above text that I feel the need to state that I am very tired right now..!

Interesting jix :). Also, I don’t test in Opera. Seems like it’s a javascript issue or something…

  25. 25. daniel45 Apr 2nd, 2011 at 7:32 pm

pretty nice , thanks for all your work on scnsrc site

  26. 26. Gravityfed Apr 2nd, 2011 at 10:22 pm

Cool cool speaking of adding some much need functionality to the site. A few of us are working on a new greasemonkey script Release Site Usenet/Torrent Searcher to add a bit more functionality to an already good site. Feel free to come help us shape a really cool script for the site. http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/10656

  27. 27. dan Apr 3rd, 2011 at 3:02 am

1)Jix is correct the theme always reverts back to the original in mozilla too.

2)Post more content. Of all the scene sites, I like this one best based on the overall look (the starsauce theme looks sweet), links to RT, imdb, trailers, and highlighted trusted links, but I still find myself going back and forth to RLSLOG to get links to shows and some movies that you don’t post. Maybe this will improve with the addition of new editors.

3)Also posting complete seasons or editors picks would be a nice touch.

4)Ignore the small, retarded B movies, with less that 100 rating on imdb and no RT rating. I don’t want to see Val Kilmer or Cuba Gooding Jr, LMAO!

Keep up the great work. Nice job guys 😀

Oh yeah, love the auto scroll feature…Genius move!

@dan: Seems to be working again… Also moar posts is always better! ^^

    Thanks, NuZZ 🙂

  31. 31. jix._. Apr 3rd, 2011 at 3:55 pm

Aah now you see, it is not fixed. I’m currently using FF and the start page always displays Shadowness whereas all the other pages display Starsauce, which I selected…

    Bummer 😐

(Also Ad-Links and staff-links in comments point to the old domain. All the links in the site are absolute, is that a wordpress thing??)

  32. 32. Shadowized Trusted Poster Apr 3rd, 2011 at 4:01 pm

ad-links? you mean the comment url form bit? probably some ppl just type that out by default since i never coded author links to be that way.

    scenesource.me is broken

  36. 36. mnc Apr 6th, 2011 at 2:42 pm

I tried leaving a comment on this post a couple of days ago, any attempts to re-post ended in a message saying my post was already made; it never made it through 😕

It wasn’t inflammatory, just backing up the fact that the chosen theme is often forgotten.

  37. 37. mnc Apr 6th, 2011 at 2:47 pm

I e-mailed [email protected] back in January about the themes always reverting back to default=Shadowness. A staff member said it would be looked into but, as both ‘jix._.’ and ‘dan’ have said, the problem still exists.

I tack ?wptheme=Starsauce onto the end of my bookmarked scnsrc address to make certain it always loads the Starsauce theme, but any time I click a link there’s a good chance I’ll end up looking at the Shadowness theme. 😐

My browser is FFox3.6 which always remembers the alternate theme options for other websites I visit, it’s only scnsrc that constantly forgets my chosen theme.

Thanks for continuing this great site 🙂 – don’t let it go the way of 0s.ws 🙁

  38. 38. mnc Apr 6th, 2011 at 2:49 pm

OK, looks like you folks banned the web address of that no longer existent website that’s at the end of my post last post.

How about posting about every scene release that is done ? Some updates are mostly missed, such as right now FLTDOX released an update for Dragon Age 2. It is still not posted here.

    A forum sounds nice.
