Unveiling PreDB.me, a release database

Posted by on May 27th, 2012, at 6:00 am in Site Stuff.

Predb.me

Many of you recall our old predb, DUP3.me. Due to previous admin’s incompetence in regard to security, some rather mad sceners decided they would compromise the servers. We then imagined an amusing project would be to rebuild the predb bigger and better than before (and completely from scratch), and thus PreDB.me exists, though we apologize for taking our sweet time.

This time around, it’s filled with 4.2 million+ releases, 3.4 million more than before. The up time should be decent and soon there will be more redundancy to help prevent gaps in the database and missing releases. Our pre sources are fast and consistent, but we may choose to use public pre sources as a redundancy if anything falls through. Additionally, the database has scraped data (ratings, images, blurbs) for movies and tv shows, from tvrage, imdb and wikipedia.

The site is quite interactive so you should not have javascript or cookies disabled. We will not track you or store any of your data.  There are quite a few filtering features briefly documented here to allow you to narrow down your searches or to build custom listings. Currently searching’s functionality and ease of use could be much improved which will come later on. If you would like to give feedback or let us know about bugs you can visit this page or just comment below. You must also note that foreign releases are by default filtered out of the front page and single category pages. When you use the search bar, they’re included, but you may filter it out by adding tag:-foreign to your searches.

You may switch between light and dark schemes by clicking the light bulb icon below the logo, at the top left of the page, and clicking the gear icon will open the options window where you will be able to customize quite a few things (more options soon, suggestions welcome). For now, you may use the custom search link functionality – it’s rather self explanatory.

More features will be coming soon, including: Archives (searching by date), relative popularity scores, top 10 pages, compact view, more user settings and easier term including/excluding.

We’re not including NFO’s at this time, though that could change.

Thanks.

    You sexy motherfucking coders 🙂

  2. 2. MoshMage May 27th, 2012 at 6:52 am

I should’ve gone to the site before ccalling you names, now i need 2 posts. Eitherway: why hid the links to dpb.se and tvrage and whatnot in the permanent-link page? couldn’t you make a “shortcut” right beside the img icon and permalink? it would be faster – i guess?

  3. 3. Guest May 27th, 2012 at 7:05 am

WoW this is now my favorite pre website. PLEASE add the nfo files to this, and it will be one of the best in the world. Thank you so much for your hard work.

    Looks great, thanks.

    Hi,
Where or how, exactly, we get to the mysterious links for the “shows” we liked?
    Please advice.
    Thanks

Glad to see it’s finally back. Thanks! I would also like to see nfo files added.

The only complaint I have is that it uses ThePirateBay for torrent searches. A lot of those great releases aren’t on TPB. Can another one be used that goes out & searches several torrent sites?

  8. 8. Ikke May 27th, 2012 at 12:16 pm

Good work. I like it better dark. The options button does nothing for me. It would be better for me to read with a non-proportional font.

But everything seems to work properly.

    @7
its fully customizable so you can add any URL you want to search with, just find the query string of the site you want to add (look at the example) and name it, click add and done.

    @8
what do you mean does nothing? try with firefox or something.

You can add your own search engine by clicking on “Create custom search”

I see what you did there…

Kudos on the new preDB, looks very sleek and seems very useful to me. But a few things immediately came to mind:

    – I would expect the use-title-feature to toggle when clicking the “on/off” label. Now you have to delete the engine (which when clicking the x doesn’t update the gui) and add it again
    – A killer feature would be define favorites!

    .

    .

    ****** IMPORTANT ******

Also this post seems like the ideal place to promote my *scnsrc link filter*! (I’m sorry for that ^^). I just uploaded it to userscripts.org. When installed you can filter the comments for entries containing your favorite hosters.

Screenshot included, just have a look, thank me later guys 😀

Ah, see now I forgot one thing… I would expect all the links to open in a new window, since the got the corresponding icon.

Otherwise still very nice work! 🙂

Congratz on the new predb, the most missed feature on scnsrc imo

nice script jix, I’ll be sure to add something similar when I design a new universal theme for the site that way you don’t kill yourself re-coding it to function when I change classes / reorder divs around 😛

  15. 15. jix._. May 27th, 2012 at 3:22 pm

    thank you 🙂
feel free to use the script as an inspirational source. I suggested something like it to NuZZ a while back and then finally got my ass up one afternoon and wrote it.
wouldn’t want to miss it ever since…

  16. 16. megaupload plz May 27th, 2012 at 4:38 pm

Ill be sure to add open-in-new-window for all links with the icon next to them.

Also, if any functionality on the site doesn’t work, it’s tested to work flawlessly in Firefox and Chrome. I merely assume it works alright on IE9, and I know it has limited functionality when viewed by a phone.

Edit: done. Will also be adding tooltips for which their contents may be selected, so that when hovering over the time to get the exact pretime you will be able to copy it.

    Wishlist: RSS feed. 🙂

I code lightweight scripts for tv show/movie auto downloaders and an RSS feed would help avoid plenty of regex code.

    Ty and good job.

  27. 27. melike May 28th, 2012 at 6:19 pm

First I’d like to say Please don’t let predb.me die or be taken down.

Nicely done it looks great, and it’s easy to use.

    Thank You 🙂

Thank you for the hard work.. and thanks for the option for us nightcrawlers to create a dark version as well..

I\m +1 for adding .nfo files

  29. 29. NuZZ Trusted Poster May 28th, 2012 at 8:19 pm

    @Rince

Put the variable rss=1 in the URL and it will return the rss feed now!
    eg.

    http://predb.me/?rss=1
    http://predb.me/?cat=1&rss=1

Will put icons and make it apparent that the functionality exist later, but I am tired :).

    Guys,
I’m new to this predb.me. I don’t have any idea how to download from this site. Is it possible to download from this site using my netload account? If not then whats the other option? Torrents are not possible coz in India they are blocking all the torrents.
    Thank you for your help.

    @ LSD

Yeah that’s some wizardry. Removing the hyphen between the group and 2002 resolves it but I don’t quite get why it is happening, will have to look into it.

    Edit: fixed

  39. 39. NFO FEED May 31st, 2012 at 8:29 pm

to whoever requests a NFO feed:

this thing called a NFO feed is required to add nfo’s. i/none of the site admins wont risc my butt to add a nfo feed here. if you do have access to trose feeds or can race nfos from sites. please do give Shadowized a msg on IRC or my mail at predb @ gmx . com.

killer features do require a killer sacrifice!

  40. 40. LSD Jun 1st, 2012 at 7:12 am

    thx for the fix 😉

  41. 41. LSD Jun 1st, 2012 at 7:15 am

separate dvdr and complete bluray sections would be nice instead of both of them being in one

  42. 42. Original Jun 1st, 2012 at 5:16 pm

Wow, just wow, this is like a dream coming true; after OrlyDB lost around two years of its archive in a downtime/crash a while back, I didn’t know what other PreDB to use. The closest was Doopes but that is quite slow in searching and has lots of missing releases but now, this f**king brilliant PreDB with a pretty complete database and even f**king working RSS feed; what else can I ask for?!

P.S. Guys, please make regular backups from the database.

  43. 43. NuZZ Trusted Poster Jun 1st, 2012 at 7:47 pm

@lsd you can browse by tags and cats by typing cat:movies-discs tag:bluray

Will be improving the whole inclusion and exclusion of terms soon though, so when you click a category it will add cat:movies to the search bar so that you may append eg. “bluray” on to that and get what you want.

  44. 44. esse Jun 1st, 2012 at 10:54 pm

It would be nice if I didn’t have to manually refresh this list. It needs an auto-refresh.

The API is not really at that state. If I do choose to develop that ill be sure to announce it on the site.

    Wow this is so sexy.

    Hi, I had two suggestions:
    1. Considering the fact that this stupid group named “SWE6RUS” keeps preing their pr0n releases without the XXX tag, their releases are being categorized under movie-sd; I’d really appreciate if you add a custom filter for this specific group to move their current and upcoming releases to the proper section.
    2. When I choose a specific section and search something, the search is carried out in the whole database instead of that specific section and to search in an specific section, the URL must be typed manually (or at least that is the only way I know). I’d really appreciate if you edit your script so that searches performed while viewing a specific section would be carried out in that section alone.
