Commenting Update

Well as some of you have noticed, comments are starting to become very hit and miss, sometimes grabbing what you want first try, or ending up with COPS instead of Private Practice. We have decided to rectify this by offering repeat, confirmed good commentors an account. A few features of this are:

Confirmed good links, with a symbol next to your name, stating so
No need to fill out the annoying form and captcha over and over again
Faster browse times

So, if you want an account, drop us an email (email address is on the contact page) and let us know your nick, email address and your nick on the site if you use something different. We will then confirm you are a good commentor, and set you up an account. If you are a first time commentor, you will have to earn your stripes, by continually offering genuine links, once this has been shown, we will offer an account.

We hope this helps everyone out, and makes everyone’s life that little bit easier.

Is is also possible to hide or flag suspected fakes also?

Yeah if a comment is fake or the wrong release we will be able to manually prune them. Remember to keep us posted with fakes so we can ban those bad commenters.

Fantastic way to go forward. It was getting annoying with the fake links to shows I have never heard of. Maybe it is some form of viral advertising. Regardless, trusted sources have my approval.

Anonymous: zerosec offer their “donaters” accounts only, and make the visitors “rate” links, etc. They don’t offer accounts to repeat commentors.

I’ve been through a lot of sites before I found SceneSource, but I’ve loved it here since I started, and getting rid of fake links (I’ve been hosed with a few) will definitely keep me coming back.

Well it is o.k. i guess, but it could help but may not becouse some people who just try to help out
with a link just once in awile will probly just stop becouse no one will bother to use there
link’s and it will just get flooded will dick’s posting rapidshare links only!
relly it’s not a new idea p2p wus relly the first to think of this piratebay has been doing
it for years!

just get a usenet account cheapasses haha. i only use scnsrc for the release name then copy+paste into a usenet search engine.

Yeah but not everybody is you, are they, skeptikone? Weeding out fake and spam links, will improve the site and hopefully make us more reliable for links aswell as a source for release names.

Good One!

The only thing worse than a fudgepacker who posts fakes is a double-fudgepacker who posts passworded RARs then tries to con you into clicking on all kinds of affiliate shit to get the password.

Manually weeding out the fomer is time-consuming, but it would improve the site no end.

An “AVIs ONLY” policy would get rid of the latter.

Single RARs are usually only fractionally smaller than the AVIs inside them anyway, and if some silly bastard splits and multi-RARs a movie then the archive is often bigger than the content. Who needs that crap ?

All these people saying “such and such did this first”, I dont think Lee is claiming to of invented the concept of trusted users. We weren’t the first people to use hyperlinks or html, should we stop using those too?

People will find a way to complain about anything, it’s not like we kissed your mum.

if the authors who made the post actually used filehosters instead of leaving it to the comments we wouldn’t have a problem or issue with fake links.

rodzilla the reason they come in a whole heap of rar’s is because they originally get posted to usenet and 14.7mb (or whatever) is the usenet file size limit. however real groups dont password protect their rars; fakers do

good idea, i admit i stopped using links posted in comments long ago, mainly due to the linkbucks spam ect… i would just come by get the keywords for the release and download the torrent off mininova. Now i know i can see trusted user symbol “similar to trusted user at piratebay symbol” and be assured the link is real.

i know Arucardo but it sure would help in the war in fakes.
i guess this idea is just as great personally i’d come here see a release then
end up going elsewhere which had the exact same releases + authors links

then i started to wonder why bother keep coming back here just to be teased with some
release that unless someone in a comment posts a link were stuffed.

if other sites have the same content + the added bonus the authors actually post links
to filehosting i couldn’t see the reason to keep returning here.

but i have great respect for lee and keep using the site.

There are a number of reasons why we don’t post links with our release info/opinions, some of which have to do with money (we are a completely adfree site and it continuesto be funded by it’s founders), resources (we have limited money which means we cannot afford to buy dedicated boxes to upload to sites like RS), time (we do this simply in our own time for our own enjoyment) and of course the legal factor (if we start uploading content it would make us more vulnerable to anti-piracy takedowns, etc.).

Yeah I think we would all like to upload to free file hosts and provide all our users with 0sec links but as you can see there are a few limited factors preventing us from doing so. Thank you all for your continue support and remember that you, the users, make the site what it is.

thanks for the reply i kind of understand your reasons but you don’t need special dedicated boxes to upload to filehosting sites your own broadband connection is good enough and will do the job
i’m not talking about 600mb + file sizes i’m talking about for instance the apps section.

these apps are very small and these apps are normally the ones with fakes everywhere.
if the authors who wrote about apps uploaded to filehosting at least its a trusted source.

as for anti-piracy o come on we all know the issues this site has with brein and other
outfits like them it makes no difference what so ever if you posted links or posted a picture
of your ass them idiots would still try to remove the site regardless. (which has been proven)

your a news posting site only and don’t offer links or downloads but they still tried so many times to shut down this site for some bizarre reason considering other sites of this nature never get touched and have more publicity and actually post file hosting links.

so all in all regardless if you posted links or not they would still serve the same punishment.
so it’s a moot point that you’d be more vulnerable to take downs as proven in the past

they don’t care they want you gone regardless what you do or dont do.

I am all for this idea but what does it take to get an account? how many times? how will new uploaders be noticed? Won’t this cause a monopoly with the people who already have an account so they get all the “reward points” from people downloading their files?

Continually do it… how many is that… why not just post 3-10 times and then ask in between that number…..

New uploaders will be noticed by ‘offering genuine links’

It will cause a monoply at the beginning sure, but if you are offering genuine links then you’ll get a lill diamond beside your name as well..
