flipinacoin

It’s time to enthusiastically acknowledge another staffer’s BDay. Flip has been with us for a few months now and she has consistently made a great number of quality posts, which I am sure you all enjoy. Flip is a great part of the SCNSRC team (Not a terrible a person either I might add); so lets wish her some happy celebrations!

PS. I want some damn cake already.

:D

Shiny

It appears we have another aging individual! Shiny is a founder who, with Lee, began Scene Source’s journey back in April of 08 (Has it been that long?).

Show some love to an oldy, guys!

Volunteers Wanted For New Project!

Posted by on Jul 8th, 2010, at 4:50 pm in Site Stuff. No Comments

Ello people! We are developing a new idea that requires some volunteers to help us out. We need people who have fair knowledge of how the Wikimedia software works, a good knowledge of ‘The Scene’ as well as enthusiasm about writing about it. If that sort of shizz tickles your fancy than hit me up on IRC ( shiny @ link-net ) or email me ( shiny@scnsrc.net ). Preferably IRC. Thanks, much love.

P.S. If you’re like a super dooper wizz developer ninja type at Wikimedia we could use your help to!

Thanks, Lee!

Sysop, Lee

Lee deserves a bit of a “Thanks” for being so selfless throughout Scene Source’s life. He has contributed many nuggets towards server costs, including many hours coding and bettering the site. Lets just say thanks to our humblest of staff, Lee :) .

EDIT: Almost forgot. It was NoFate‘s birthday 2 days ago (12th) too. Sorry, we love you too fatepants!

We’re back…

Hey guys, as you can see we’re back after a bit of a forced hiatus, things are definitely not working how they should be just yet, and its getting late. Bare with us through the teething periods (of which there’s been far too many already) and while I get some sleep. Thanksies! <3

SceneSource v2: The Cake is NOT a Lie!

Posted by on Mar 17th, 2010, at 2:51 am in Site Stuff. 138 Comments

Mmmmmmmmmmmm. Cake.

Finally, after our little bit of an attempt at some hype (lol) we’ve decided to roll out our new server, and what better time then to push out SceneSource v2. This is the culmination of a lot of hardwork from NuZZ and Shadowized, as well as some coding by myself and some images courtesy of shiny. We have heard your requests, and while we aren’t going to bring you uploads in posts any time soon, we have added some of the more requested features. Below you will find some more details regarding the new features of v2, as well as the awesome themes NuZZ and Shadow have designed.

Firstly I guess I should say a little about the server. We’ve finally gone all out and gone for a quad core, 8gb RAM. This (we hope) will see us through the foreseeable future, until the time when we need to upgrade again, in which case we would probably be looking at 2 servers by then (expensive slightly…). Anyway, this new server should be a lot faster then the old, especially during peak times when TV is pre’ing and the site would die completely.

Shadowness

Shadowness is our attempt at bringing the flavour of SceneSource’s original theme that has been with us for over 2 years, to the design and feel of this theme. Many elements stay the same, including the sidebar down the right, a navigation bar across the top, and search in the top right. What we have added is some extra width, allowing us to use larger images and more space while writing. Formatting of the posts has altered slightly as well, with the number of comments appearing above the content of the post, rather then below as per version 1. This theme is the new default SceneSource theme, and should been nicknamed “sloth”.

Greysauce

You will find that Greysauce is slightly brighter than the old theme. At the bottom of the page you will notice an experimental “Load more” button. This should (With the help of a plugin called Infiscroll) load the next page underneath the last. It may not be for everyone.

In this theme the tables and blockquotes have been styled with indentation to make such content inside them contrast better.

Dark Greysauce

Dark Greysauce is simply a few shades darker than Greysauce with greater contrast.

Note: The Greysauce theme(s) will not render properly in Internet Explorer. This is because I was too lazy to code for its failing and decided to stick with the modern browsers. It will, however, work with IE9 when that is released, in the future. The theme Shadowness works in all browsers.

Filter Categories

Of course we have heard your cries for a No-TV filter that would exclude these from your front page. Your prayers have been answered, because not only do we give you a No-TV filter, there’s also a No-MP3 filter that will hide these posts when you have zero interest in them! Simply click the designated button and poof! they’re gone.

Theme Switcher

You might think this new theme is super awesome, but there’s more! You can easily change themes by selecting the one you like in the Theme Switcher box to the right. This way you always have SceneSource exactly the way you like it!

We were going to also announce what we thought was going to end your problem of fake links, but we’ve had to push that back as it was lagging the comments, and just wasn’t worth rushing out. Instead, I will take this time to also announce that the format of TV shows is going to change once again to a more stylized and informative format. This should be happening within the next day or two.

Obviously, like any new thing we bring to you guys, its not perfect straight off the bat. Do bare with us while we get through our teething stages, as we will endeavor to resolve and bugs and or problems ASAP. We also encourage commenting on this post if you find any bugs, errors or glitches around the place. We don’t know until people let us know about them. :) Hope you enjoy these new features as much as we are looking forward to providing them for you.

From all of  us here at SceneSource, we hope you enjoy your flight, and please remember that the plane may drop out of the sky at any time, so please keep your seat belts fastened and your barf bags near.

Downtime… Once More !!

Posted by on Mar 13th, 2010, at 10:20 am in Site Stuff. 33 Comments

We are really sorry about the recent downtime for the site. It was related to some data center issues that’s why you may as well experience some slow response from the site . Hope everything goes well from now on. Thanks for your patience, and enjoy your favorite site.

SceneSource – Powered by PaNDa, not ads!

Posted by on Feb 13th, 2010, at 8:13 pm in Site Stuff. 164 Comments

This is just a little welcome post to all our refugees from over at ZeroSec. In case you haven’t heard, the guys over there have fallen on their own sword. They sold their site (for questionable reasons at best) to mysterious new owners, who have now plastered the site with ads and other nasties. Now most editors have left, they are unable to add new editors or access old tools for posting, rendering the site pretty much useless.

Over here at SceneSource we’ll never have that problem, as we don’t require ads to maintain our site, nor do we plan on selling out to mysterious owners… ever. We were the original site formed by two former rlslog editors who had enough of Martin and his ads, as well as his lack of care for rlslog. We founded SceneSource as a homage to what rlslog should of been. So from all of us at SceneSource, we’d like to say welcome, we hope you enjoy your stay and that you will find a new home with us.

I’d also like to point out to anyone that doesn’t already know about dup3.me and trac3.me, two projects run by the staff here at SceneSource. There is also a few new things happening around the place soon, so keep an eye out. :)

Edit: As you can imagine, the influx of visitors from ZS has slightly overloaded our server, causing slow site loads. We are looking into upgrading, but as you can imagine these things take time to plan and implement.

PS: The new posts are below this one, this is a sticky!
