Hey guys, as you can see we’re back after a bit of a forced hiatus, things are definitely not working how they should be just yet, and its getting late. Bare with us through the teething periods (of which there’s been far too many already) and while I get some sleep. Thanksies! <3
Yeehaw, another corny horror movie, not like we’ve had enough of these! Killer creatures that lurk in dark (and nightmares) seem to be the basis of these cheap scares, and I’m not too fussed whether its scary or not because I ain’t touching this one. Regardless, quality seems pretty damn good, just a shame the movie doesn’t seem up to the same quality.
PS: Look at that sexy alien mitt in the 3rd sample, now wouldn’t that go just great with some Sweet & Sour sauce, and a good serving a special flied rice!?! /me drools

Synopsis: Andrew is haunted by the nightmare of dying a horrible death in the claw of a rampaging creature. A friend convinces him the only way to conquer imagined fear is to confront it head on. When they invite an adventurous group of off-roaders for radical cycling in remote terrain, no one knows they are being led to the time and place the nightmare unfolds. As sunset plunges them into darkness, the dreadful dream turns real, and they are attacked by the Catcher, a skilled and brutal collector of human specimens for alien science. They are no match for the deft hunter, and it picks its victims, dragging them into an underground catacomb. When Andrew’s girlfriend is seized, he confronts the ultimate terror of tracking her into the unknown danger below. In a courageous rescue, they attempt escape, but the vicious visitor has marked them with a scent, and it pursues in an unrelenting attack.

A new(ish) Australian comedy from group aAF. Suprisingly, this one actually has pretty good ratings on iMDB, and the notoriously hard to please RT critics. So if your looking for a bit of light-hearted fun on a boring day, this may just be for you! aAF are a very reliable group, so I’m not expecting any nukes on this one, with quality video and audio included.

Synopsis: City based Eddie sets off to reconnect with his blackfella roots by taking a sacred stone back to his hometown. But when wild-boy Charlie forces himself along for the ride, Eddie’s spiritual journey goes off track and becomes a riotous trip through outback Australia as the boys are forced to contend with a self-obsessed Italian rock-god, a cross dressing cousin, and a demonic dog!

Another decent looking indie horror, looks like somewhat out of the Saw mould. High schoolers who go on a rampage against those who tortured them at school, and all that jazz. Quality is again pretty standard on this release.

Synopsis: In the scenic and remote county of Rocky Branch, Texas, the Workley ranch house would become the infamous scene known internationally on the internet as “The Final.” Dane, an awkward student with a deadly vendetta and suicidal tendencies, leads a group of outcasts who plot to avenge the years of humiliation they faced by the popular students at Hohn High School. Employing ideas inspired both from their classes as well as from horror films they watched, the outcasts turn the tables on the popular students who made sport of them.
After receiving a lake-house granted to him in his uncle’s will, Dane and his friends, Jack, Ravi, Andy and Emily prepare for a single night that will leave their tormentors scarred for life… physically and emotionally.

A pretty damn good sounding indie horror from VoMiT this time, and this one actually has a trailer! The plot sounds pretty awesome and the few written reviews reveal this one to be a bit of a mind-fuck. Quality wise this release is pretty standard stuff, video and audio are baseline.

Synopsis: A psychological thriller following a successful young married couple on their way to visit family. After a blowout on a desolate stretch of highway in Nevada, they head to the next town only to discover it long abandoned. Here they meet a mysterious stranger who seems to know decidedly more than he is sharing. In aiding their survival, he gradually undermines some of their most comfortable assumptions, playing wife off against husband. As they struggle to co-operate with this plain-speaking itinerant without compromising their own trusted partnership, his behaviour becomes more bizarre and accusatory. Surface reality starts to fragment, dark secrets threaten to emerge, and their secure lives start to unravel…

Another one of those corny Hallmark movies this time from VoMiT. Not much to say other then quality seems pretty good besides the horrid 4:3 (analog TV) resolution…

A drama from group AEN called Lucky Bastard was released a little while ago, and boy does it stink. Not only are the written reviews rubbish, the lack of a notable cast and the terrible direction make this film very skippable. For those interested, check the iMDB page for more info. PS: Is there a shot in this film where he’s actually wearing a shirt?, or did they just skimp out on the costumes and were like “Here, you’re going shirtless the whole film mmk?”

Synopsis: A successful and happily coupled but restless gay man reevaluates his life and self-identity in this dark indie drama from writer-director Everett Lewis (The Natural History of Parking Lots). When architect Rusty (Patrick Tatten) begins cheating on his loving boyfriend with a drug-addicted hustler, Denny (Dale Dymkoski), the affair leads to an existential crisis that finds Rusty questioning his very notions of success and happiness.

A short from the Funny People DVD, Raaaaaaaandy is a doco about a comedian whose Aziz’s character is based off of. Looks pretty funny, and weighing in at only ~250MB should make it a worthy download.

Synopsis: The “Raaaaaaaandy! Documentary” is a 22-minute piece on Aziz Ansari’s character from the film, a rude-humored comic that is supposed to have become a sensation. This funny piece is played straight, as if it were real. Randy is kind of a parody of Dane Cooke filtered through a hiphop prism. The featurette also has cameos from The Office’s Ellie Kemper, Parks & Recreation’s Nick Offerman, and Jimmy Kimmel as himself.

Long time no post! Unfortunately this film doesn’t really interest me in the slightest, mix reviews around the traps regarding the “indie” feel to the film, which seems to be its biggest drawcard. Quality wise this release is pretty solid, I can’t really fault it from what I’ve seen.

Do you enjoy STV movies? Do you enjoy watching the Lifetime Movie Network? Well then you’ll loooove this release from aAF. One Hot Summer is a LMN production, released straight to DVD and aired on their primetime slot at 7PM. Apart from that, this has nothing going for it. Poor ratings, poor reviews, poor director choice make this very forgettable.
