On the other hand though Witmer s been in this game for more than 15 years and he manages to not only stay creatively productive but also true to his mission. Which is at least admirable even if it isn t wildly varied. This is a guy who records his feelings almost every year and issues press releases reporting that the music industry has taught him and this is an actual quote to be patient to trust in happy accidents and to admit every once in a while that he isn t totally in control.

They ve simply shifted the order of their compositional tools pushing the guitars into supporting roles while using new devices to build more deliberate and controllable compositions. For instance it s easy to imagine The Opulent Decline the 18-minute electronic rumination that closes the record being played largely on guitar with its gently daubed melodies picked from six strings rather than routed through keys and circuits. V is neither less deep space nor more varied than its predecessors.
